Moyer, a native Iowan, began dirt late-model racing in 1977. He moved to Batesville in 1982 to work for Larry Shaw, a budding race car manufacturer. This partnership dominated and revolutionized dirt late-model racing.

Moyer’s departure in 1996 and Shaw’s return to the team, Moyer and Shaw averaged 31.5 feature wins per season.

Moyer has consistently won all the major events throughout his career. He became the fourth winner of the Topless 100 in 2005 and is also the only person to have won six times the World 100 at Eldora Speedway, Rossburg, Ohio, dirt late model racing’s most prestigious race, the World 100.

Moyer usually races in the largest race of each week, but he has not been consistent enough to follow the series closely enough to compete for points championships.

He has still won series championships in USAC Late Model Series (1986-87), National Championship Racing Association (1985), Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Racing Series (1997), USAC Late Model Series (1986-87), USAC Late Model Series (1997), and World of Outlaws Late Model Series (1988-89; 2005).

Since 1977, Billy Moyer has won 847 feature races. He is also the only driver to have won the prestigious “World 100” six times!!
